On September 16, 2026, the Raňajky s MIMom (Breakfast with MIM) conference took place at the NH Bratislava Gate One Hotel under the theme “System Modernization in the AI Era.” Participants gained valuable insights into data management, information system modernization, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence, complemented by practical examples and real-world experience.
In the opening session, Radovan Ako presented MIM’s perspective on modernizing existing systems in the AI era. He explained that modernization is about making informed decisions on what to retain, what to enhance, what to integrate, and what to replace. Rather than relying exclusively on either a traditional waterfall or an agile methodology, he advocated a hybrid delivery model that combines a clearly defined project framework with smaller, continuously validated deliverables.
Continuing the discussion, Branislav Haukwitz presented a case study on crisis program management within a large-scale national digitalization initiative. He demonstrated ten specific interventions that enabled the program to go live on schedule, ranging from redefining an originally unrealistic deadline and streamlining communication between the project manager and suppliers, to implementing a shared commitment tracker and a program-wide issue log.
Ľubomír Ivanov focused on the adoption of artificial intelligence in public administration and regulated organizations. He emphasized that most institutions are already using AI in practice, often without formal approval or proper governance, despite the fact that obligations arising from the AI Act, including employee AI literacy requirements, have been in force since February 2025. He highlighted that instead of asking “Can AI be trusted?”, organizations should be asking “Can I explain and demonstrate what AI has done?” He also introduced a seven-layer architecture that enables responsible, transparent, and auditable AI usage, covering everything from identity and access management to content protection, monitoring, auditing, and cost governance.
The closing session was delivered by Andreas Pfangert from Qlik. In the first part of his presentation, he explored the question of when data is truly ready for AI. He then introduced the latest developments and strategic direction of Qlik Talend Data Integration, a platform that combines data integration, transformation, and data quality with artificial intelligence and analytics within a single environment.
Raňajky s MIMom 2026 brought together perspectives on information system modernization with some of today’s most relevant topics in artificial intelligence and data quality. The discussions demonstrated that the journey toward a modern IT environment is driven by incremental modernization, effective data management, and the responsible, transparent, and auditable use of artificial intelligence.
